Liverpool Hope is a liberal arts university with a similar structure to Agnes Scott, providing exchange programs for an academic year or a semester. Students must enroll fulltime at the university and choose from a variety of classes to earn credits for major, minor or electives. Study Abroad students have guaranteed housing at one of Liverpool Hope's campuses. All Study Abroad and International Exchange students take a weekly course entitled British Life to help them better understand British culture, lifestyle, education, and more.

Academic Calendar
Academic Year: Late September to early June
Semester 1: Late September to mid December
Semester 2: Early January to early June

Study abroad students on semester programs typically are given assessments that can be submitted before returning home. Students who attend for a full academic year may be expected to sit for the end of year exams.

Accommodation
International students may stay on the Aigberth Park Campus in either St. Julie's or St. Michael's Residence Halls. If students are a performing arts major, they can choose to stay on the Creative Campus in the city center. All rooms are single rooms, some en-suite and some not, with a shared kitchen and dining area. Students have the opportunity to purchase meals at the on-campus catering facilities on a 'pay as you go' basis using a pre-paid catering card, cash, or a credit/debit card.

Students will receive a meal stipend via direct deposit from Agnes Scott shortly after ASC bills are due at the beginning of the semester. Students are then responsible for budgeting for the semester to buy groceries or purchase meals at cafeterias or restaurants. Students will also receive the equivalent of a few meals per week on their pre-paid catering card from Liverpool Hope University.

Academic Subject Areas
There are three Faculties at Liverpool Hope University: Arts and Humanities, Science and Social Sciences, and Education. LHU (and really the entire city of Liverpool) is particularly strong in Music & Arts, including Fine Art, Dance, Music Performance, and Creative and Performing Arts. Other departments include Psychology, Theology & Religious Studies, English, and Biology (the only hard science available). More course choices tend to be available in Fall semester versus Spring semester.

Please see subject areas at top of program brochure page and/or review recent academic catalogs below to see list of courses. Updated course catalogs will be added as they become available.

Credit Hours
Students must take a minimum of the equivalent of 12 US credits while abroad to be enrolled full-time. Courses at Liverpool Hope are valued at 15 or 30 ECTS credits. A Liverpool Hope student will take 60 ECTS credits per semester, so make sure that your course choices reflect this credit load too as you will join Liverpool Hope students for all of your courses. This will be equivalent to a full-time load at Agnes Scott College. Exact number of credits vary.

The grading system at Liverpool Hope University is quite different from the United States. Grade and credit translation will take place upon receipt of the official transcript at the completion of the program. Students must request a transcript be sent to the Center for Global Learning at Agnes Scott College.

Location
Liverpool, famously known as the birthplace of The Beatles, is a hub of creativity with famous architecture, magnificent museums, festivals, and dramatic sporting attractions. The city is a gateway for UK culture and attracts millions of visitors each year. The main campus, Hope Park, is located in a suburb of Liverpool, just four miles from the city centre.

University
Liverpool Hope is a small liberal arts university with two main teaching campuses: Hope Park in the Liverpool suburb of Childwall, and Creative Campus in the city centre . It also has a residential area approximately three miles from the city centre and Hope Park - Aigburth Campus, as well as an outdoor education centre - Plas Caerdeon.

The first founding colleges of Liverpool Hope University: The Church of England's Warrington Training College, and the Sisters of Notre Dame's Our Lady's Training College, were established about 170 years ago to provide teacher education for women. Ten years later, Christ's College was established where Hope Park is today, and in 1980, the colleges came together to form an ecumenical federation – The Liverpool Institute of Higher Education (LIHE). Later, LIHE became a single, unified College and gained the name Liverpool Hope to represent the mission of the college. In July 2005, the Privy Council bestowed the right to use the University title, and the college became Liverpool Hope University.
